Losing weight with hypnosis; is it possible? We have heard of people being successful with going to a hypnotherapist to stop smoking, but can it help you stop eating. There are literatures out there that suggest hypnosis works better for smoking than for weight loss. Hypnosis is not magic, it’s not like someone hypnotizes you and you don’t want to over eat anymore. Hypnosis is meant to be a tool that will help you change poor eating behavior so that certain patterns become easier to undo or resist.
A typical hypnosis session with a therapists usually leading the patient into a deep relaxation state by directing him or her to practice breathing exercises and by asking them to imagine a peaceful location such as the beach or mountains. After about 10-15 minutes the therapist makes suggestions about how the patient might make better decisions about their food choices and patterns and these suggestions are stored in their subconscious. For example; some people might tend to overeat when they are depressed or lonely and the therapist might suggest instead of running to the fridge to eat when they are feeling this way try taking a few deep breaths and you might feel just as satisfied. If the hypnosis is successful the next time the patient runs to the fridge when they are lonely or depressed they should be able to stop themselves by remembering to take a deep breath.
If you choose to try this method you will probably have three to four weekly sessions, followed by another one month later. And please be sure your therapist is a medical doctor or other licensed health-care practioner who has completed an extensive professional-level hypnotherapy program. A reputable credential is a certification from American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
